Backpressure effects on the flow-pressure relation of driplines REA
Thebaldi,Michael S; Lima,Luiz A; Almeida,Willian F. de; Andrade,Rafaella R.
ABSTRACT For drip irrigation design and management, it is necessary to know the relation between flow and pressure acting on emitters. In the case of subsurface drip irrigation, the backpressure phenomenon may change the hydraulic characteristics of emitters. Thus, this study aimed at determining such relationship between flow and pressure of different driplines in surface and subsurface conditions; aiming to find possible differences in hydraulic behavior. We tested four emitter types; two pressure compensating (D5000 and Hydro PCND) and two non-pressure compensating (TalDrip and Jardiline). Emitter flow rates were attained in atmospheric conditions and submerged in water, in which submergence levels represented backpressure. Assays were performed using...

CALCIUM NITRATE CONCENTRATIONS IN FERTIGATION FOR ‘TERRA’ BANANA PRODUCTION REA
Andrade Neto,Torquato M. De; Coelho,Eugênio F.; Silva,Ana Carina P. Da.
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of calcium nitrate concentration of irrigation water on soil chemical attributes and productivity during the first ‘Terra’ banana crop cycle. The experiment followed a completely randomized design with six treatments and five replications, with six plants per plot. Treatments consisted in the use of three calcium nitrate concentrations (3.0, 10.0 and 13.0 g.L−1), applied via dripping and micro-micro-sprinkling irrigation. The results showed that the soil chemical properties under fertigation are influenced by the water and nutrient delivery system. There was a linear tendency of increase in electrical conductivity of the saturation extract and soil solution with the increase in calcium nitrate...

Chemical treatment to unclogg dripper irrigation systems due to biological problems Scientia Agricola
Ribeiro,Túlio Assunção Pires; Paterniani,José Euclides Stipp; Coletti,Christiane.
Many producers use drippers for trickle irrigation systems for flower production in the field and in protected environments. A frequent problem in this type of irrigation system is the clogging of drippers, which is directly related to water quality and filtering system efficiency. The objective of this study was to conduct an experimental investigation to evaluate the efficiency of using nitric acid and sodium hypochlorite to unclogg drippers due to the use of water with high algae content. The evaluation was conducted in six, 4216 m² greenhouses, each with two sectors comprised of ten spaces or lines, totaling 12 sectors of a dripper irrigation system in a rose producing property of Holambra, State of SP, Brazil. Chemical and physical analyses and the...

ESTIMATION OF THE KINETIC HEAD COEFFICIENT (k) BASED ON THE GEOMETRIC CHARACTERISTICS OF EMITTER PIPES REA
Flores,José H. N.; Rettore Neto,Osvaldo; Faria,Lessandro C.; Timm,Luís C..
ABSTRACT: The objective of this study was to determine the variability of the head loss as a function of the emitter geometry as well as to develop a relation between local head loss caused by the emitter insertion and geometric characteristics of the emitter pipe, using index of obstruction for dripper pipes with non-coaxial emitters. For this, an experimental bench was developed to control the system and obtain the variables pertinent to the study. From the value of the total head loss in the emitter pipe and the value obtained with calculation of the distributed head loss in the pipe, the difference of these values was local head loss caused by the insertion of the emitter. Total head loss in the emitter pipe and local head loss on the emitter presented...

Flow rate dynamics of pressure-compensating drippers under clogging effect AGRIAMBI
Pinto,Marinaldo F.; Molle,Bruno; Alves,Dinara G.; Ait-Mouheb,Nassim; Camargo,Antonio P. de; Frizzone,José A..
ABSTRACT The clogging dynamics of pressure-compensating drippers is still poorly addressed, and its understanding is quite important to control clogging. The aim of this study was to evaluate the flow performance of pressure-compensating drippers under clogging effect. Eight pressure-compensating emitters, model J-SC Jain PC-PLUS with nominal flow rate of 2.2 L h-1 were evaluated. The tests were run for 8 h d-1 for 4 weeks, a total of 160 h. Every 40 h, the concentration and granulometry of suspended particles were increased, by adding 125 mg L-1 of solids, composed of sand. The flow rate of the emitters was determined using a weight measurement system. Flow rate variations of the emitters did not follow a defined pattern. Clogging seems to occur randomly...

Modeling for predicting soil wetting radius under point source surface trickle irrigation CIGR Journal
Subbauah, Rangavajhala; Mashru, Harshad Hemrajbhai.
Irrigation practices that are profligate in their use of water have come under closer scrutiny by water managers and the public.  Trickle irrigation has the propensity to increase water use efficiency only if the system is designed to meet the soil and plant conditions.  Information on moisture distribution patterns under point source trickle emitters is a pre-requisite for the design and operation of trickle irrigation systems.  This will ensure precise placement of water and fertilizer in the active root zone.  For many practical situations, detailed information on matric potential or water content distribution within the wetted volume is not necessary and prediction of the boundaries and shape of the wetted soil volume suffice.  Simple models are more...

Potassium estimation in the soil solution based on electrical conductivity and soil water content AGRIAMBI
Andrade Neto,Torquato M. de; Coelho,Eugênio F.; Santana,José A. do V.; Santana Júnior,Edvaldo B.; Alves,Márcio da S..
The objective of this work was to evaluate and to validate models for estimating potassium in the soil solution as a function of bulk electrical conductivity (ECw), soil water content (q) and a soil solution electrical conductivity (ECss). Treatments consisted of using three concentrations of injecting solution of potassium chloride (1.0, 2.5 and 4.0 g L-1) which were applied by two trickle irrigation systems (microsprinkler and drip) during the first cycle of the banana crop cv. Terra Maranhão. Results showed that it is feasible to estimate potassium concentration in the soil solution from data of ECss and q obtained by time domain reflectometry (TDR) using an equation that combined a linear and a potential model. The estimated values of potassium...

Vegetative growth and yield of strawberry under irrigation and soil mulches for different cultivation environments Scientia Agricola
Pires,Regina Célia de Matos; Folegatti,Marcos Vinícius; Passos,Francisco Antonio; Arruda,Flávio Bussmeyer; Sakai,Emílio.
The vegetative growth and yield of strawberry in relation to irrigation levels and soil mulches are still not well known, mainly for different environmental conditions. Two experiments were carried out in Atibaia, SP, Brazil, during 1995, one in a protected environment and the other in an open field, to evaluate the cultivar Campinas IAC-2712, under different irrigation levels and soil mulches (black and clear polyethylene). Three water potential levels in the soil were used in order to define irrigation time, corresponding to -0.010 (N1), -0.035 (N2), and -0.070 (N3) MPa, measured through tensiometers installed at the 10 cm depth. A 2 × 3 factorial arrangement was adopted, as randomized complete block, with 5 replicates. In the protected cultivation, the...
